Luggage racks for bikes

The only thing you really need to keep an eye on is the size of your bike wheels, as they often determine whether a rack will fit or not.

What should you choose?
If you only need extra space once in a while, a click-on rack might be the solution, and if you're a mountain biker, you can attach a rack to the seat post for carrying lightweight items.
If your "cargo" is particularly wide or tall, you may benefit from an "octopus", which is a thick elastic band with hooks in each arm, wrapped around whatever you're carrying and finished off by attaching the hooks to the rack. This keeps even large items in place. It also helps if the carrier is wide.
Cycling vacations require space for a lot of luggage. Front and back, down the sides or on the handlebars! - The bike can get quite heavy. It's a good idea to buy a rack made from a strong, lightweight material.
If you need to transport your briefcase, bag or laptop, you can buy a spring-loaded luggage flap so that things don't get squashed.
