Nishiki is a well-known bicycle brand that has been creating quality bikes for decades and has a wide range of bikes for both children and adults.

A long history behind it

Nishiki bikes have an unusual history. In the beginning, they weren't called Nishiki at all, but American Eagle, and behind the brand was the American bicycle distributor West Coast Cycle. Since the bikes were produced in Japan, they wanted to find a Japanese-sounding name for the bikes. They held a competition and the result was Nishiki, as it was both easy to pronounce for non-Japanese speakers and had the desired sound. However, during the 1980s it became too expensive to import bikes from Japan, so West Coast Cycle moved production to the cheaper Taiwan. In 1989, West Coast Cycle sold the rights to the Nishiki name to Derby International, who shut down Nishiki in the US in 2001. Today, however, Nishiki bikes are still sold in the European market.
