The shape of bar ends
It's very individual what people prefer when choosing bar ends. However, most people choose to go with the models that are ergonomic, i.e. where they are shaped to fit the hand. Short, teardrop-shaped barends are also popular among those who just want more hand positions to choose from - mainly for longer runs in forest and rugged terrain.
Barend materials
There's not much to be gained from mountain bike bar ends in either aluminum or carbon. Carbon barends obviously offer the lowest weight and are therefore used by ambitious mountain bikers. However, the experience of comfort and the feeling of safety should always guide your choice of bar ends.
