The Principia bike is Danish design and Danish quality all the way. The Principia bike started as a project and ended up as a recognized company.
The year was 1989 and three guys needed money to buy the latest equipment for their triathlon bikes. Since the equipment for the sport was expensive, they decided to try building their own frame for the bike. After a couple of years of trials and tribulations and a series of conversations with the local banker, it all came together. Principia opened in Aalborg, Denmark, selling Danish quality bicycle frames. Since then, the company has grown and a lot has happened since the first frames came out of the apartment in Aalborg. After a number of years of ups and downs, Principia is today a solid brand that guarantees quality and stylish design.
Principia participated in the MTB World Championships in 1998, which helped to promote global awareness of the company. The bike was ridden by Danish rider, Thomas Noerup, and in the wake of the success, road cycling started to become a popular sport in Denmark, which only helped Principia.
Today, Principia is primarily known for their triathlon bikes, but more classic racing bikes and MTB bikes are also a Principia brand. In the past, Principia was reserved for the elite, but in recent years the focus has shifted so that the ordinary consumer can also afford to ride Principia. After 25 years of experience, Principia's ambitions haven't changed, they still want to deliver the world's best bike frames.
This would allow for a more powerful energy transfer from rider to bike, which could also be better controlled through the hardness/stiffness of the material. And the large, round but lightweight aluminum tubes used by Principia bikes proved to be the way forward. More and more people saw the benefits of this material, which, along with Principia bikes, saw a steady rise in popularity. Today, Principia still uses their aluminum frames, but the most expensive bikes now have carbon frames, which are even lighter and better at absorbing bumps in the road.
Principia has managed to spread the idea and vision of their durable and competitive bikes. Therefore, it has been essential to bring the Danish brand into the real world, where extreme demands are placed on both the rider and the bike.
By having the most bikes in the recognized and extremely demanding Ironman in Hawaii in 1996 and 1997, Principia proved to the world that their bikes lived up to the high standards required by this competition. In addition, Danish Stig Nicolaysen uses Principia's bikes for what many believe is the world's toughest bike race, the Race Across America. The race is held in June and, as the name suggests, goes across the United States. The incredible 4828 kilometers are completed in just 12 days and therefore requires the best equipment to complete.
When you buy a bike from Danish Principia, you are guaranteed quality all the way through. This helps to ensure that everyone has a great experience on the bike.
