Raleigh has been making quality bicycles for generations for young and old and is characterized by the fact that their bikes are produced to differentiated standards depending on where in the world the bike will be sold.
The Raleigh story began in the 1880s when two men started a small bicycle repair shop on Raleigh Street in the English city of Nottingham. Not long after starting up, they began advertising in the local press and it wasn't long before they had to expand to larger premises. More investors came in and within a couple of years they were selling 3 bikes a week and employing 5-6 people. Success grew as the years went by, and later Raleigh also started producing motorcycles and mopeds.
Moped production continued until the 1970s, after which Raleigh turned its focus back to bicycles. In 1964, Raleigh launched the RSW as a direct competitor to the successful Moulton Bicycle. The Raleigh RSW was also a folding bike, with small wheels, and it was a big hit until production stopped in 1974. On the cusp of a new decade in 1969, Raleigh released their now iconic children's bike, the Chopper. The Raleigh children's bike had many cool features, such as the long, padded seat with backrest, top tube-mounted gears and wheels in two different sizes. The bike was a huge success around the world and to this day, kids can still whizz around on a Raleigh Chopper, albeit in a modified version that meets today's safety requirements.
The philosophy behind Raleigh bikes is that they're not just a means of transportation, they're such a big part of people's lives that they deserve nothing but the best when it comes to thoughtful design. That's why a Raleigh bike is not the same in Denmark as it is in South Africa. The development process takes into account important factors such as geography, climate, economy and culture. This way, Raleigh makes sure to always stay relevant in their differentiated markets and offers customers the best possible bike in their local environment.
Raleigh's product range is, in a word, bikes. But today, a bike is more than just a bike, and the range of Raleigh bikes spans city bikes, mountain bikes, kids' bikes, junior bikes, women's bikes and in the last few years, Raleigh e-bikes have become a bestseller.
If you're in the market for a new bike and quality and thoughtful design are keywords for you, a Raleigh bike will definitely be an ideal match!
