This axle nut is made of stainless steel to avoid annoying rust on it. It's a bolt/nut that you should periodically check is properly tightened. This axle nut fits both sides of a Shimano Nexus rear hub; whether it's 3, 5, 7 or 8 gears. Shimano Nexus 3 gears, however, it only fits on the left side.
